MISSION STATEMENT FOR THE SALVATION ARMY:

Help conduct the daily operation of the Washtenaw County Emergency Social Services Programs. Ensure that proper procedures are carried out in the provision and documentation of services. Maintain inventory of necessary resources with which to operate the programs and advise Social Services Director when additional resources are needed.
1) Provision of emergency services (i.e., emergency food, shelter, and other financial assistance to families and individuals in the county services area).
(a) Conduct emergency food distribution.
(b) Administer emergency financial assistance and other seasonal emergency assistance programs.
(c) Provide interventions with the probability of increasing client’s self sufficiency potentials.
2) Responsible for provision of casework services.
(a) Conduct client interviews and assess needs, review client budget and, when appropriate, make financial management recommendations.
(b) Network with other social service agencies in the community to establish and maintain good interagency working relationships.
(c) Advocate for the on-going needs of the clients and provide referrals to other community resources for housing assistance, material needs such as clothing and food, child care, and employment
(d) Completes all necessary paperwork thoroughly and on a timely basis. Ensure that client files are up to date with all required documentation recorded in the file.
(e) Provide case management as outlined under Pathway of Hope.
3) Complete all other duties as assigned and accepts other assignments as deemed appropriate by the Social Service Director and/or Washtenaw County Command
The Washtenaw County Social Services Caseworker is accountable to the Director of Social Services and the Washtenaw County Commanding Officer. The caseworker is expected to carry out his/her duties responsibly and in a manner that is in compliance with the ministry and purpose of The Salvation Army. Above all, the caseworker is to represent The Salvation Army within the community in such a manner as to insure utmost recognition and support.
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant social services field is required. Applicant must be flexible and able to function well under extreme pressure. Applicant must be able to function within the spiritual objectives of The Salvation Army understanding that The Salvation Army mission is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs without discrimination
Position is salaried/exempt
Business hours are 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday, however, weekends and evenings may be required. While this position will be based at the Ann Arbor Corps, the caseworker may be required to provide coverage as needed to the Corps.
