    POSITION TITLE:             Shift Supervisor

    REPORTS TO:                  Program Supervisor

     

    FLSA CATEGORY:             Non-Exempt

    SUMMARY

    The Shift Supervisor oversees facility security (including loss prevention), facility safety, resident movement control and monitoring, recording and record keeping.  The Shift Supervisor supervises the performance of the Corrections Counselors (C.C.’s) in all three units on his/her assigned shift.  The Shift Supervisor also supervises residents’ work details when custodial or housekeeping staff is not available.  Oversees the fire safety equipment checks and fire drills conducted on his/her assigned shift.

     

    OUTCOMES

    Sufficient administrative support will be provided by the Security Services Supervisor, the Program Manager/Operations and the Program Manager/Casework Management to insure that program duties are effectively achieved. A liaison will exist within both the Community Corrections Program and the Metropolitan Division.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

    1. Provides initial on-the-job trainings for Correctional Counselors. Supervises the performance of the Correctional Counselors and other employees with related work. Ensures that all areas are properly staffed by scheduling Correctional Counselors, and that all required records are properly prepared and filed or routed.
    2. Oversees the security of the facility. Ensures the uninterrupted operations of facility systems, including fire prevention, key control, vehicle management and resident records. Assumes control of the facility during emergency evacuations and acts as liaison between the program and emergency services personnel.
    3. Works at least one weekend per month on their assigned shift. On this weekend, act as the off-duty security staff duty officer.
    4. Oversee the safety and orderliness of the facility. Conducts and evaluates emergency drills and training sessions as needed.
    5. When required, manages residents in their work details.
    6. Continuously facilitates communication with supervisory staff regarding resident activity and with custodial staff regarding facility conditions. Facilitates maximum communication amongst all staff members to ensure full communication of all relevant information from shift to shift and appropriate reporting of all exceptional incidents.
    7. Meets weekly with the other Shift Supervisors to discuss management, training and scheduling of staff.
    8. Reviews correctional counselor applications for employment and participates in the interview.
    9. Performs all other duties, including all C.C. tasks, as required.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
    • An excellent record as a Correctional Counselor at the facility is required or previous supervisory experience as deemed adequate by the Program Director.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • This position is required to do light physical work.
    • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
    • The work environment for this position is a residential environment with a low to moderate noise level.
