    Develops and coordinates the volunteer program for The Salvation Army’s of Polk, Burnett and St. Croix Counties, including recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers.

    Responsibilities

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Recruits long-term, short-term and special event volunteers for all program areas as needed.
    • Updates and maintains all online volunteer databases and sites including but not limited to: Volunteer Impact and register to Ring.
    • Maintains current volunteer applications, job descriptions, manuals and orientation information.
    • Screens all volunteer applications to ensure positions are filled with qualified individuals. Ensures all background checks for volunteers are completed in accordance with Salvation Army policies and procedures.
    • Conducts volunteer interviews and orientations, and supervises volunteers.
    • Maintains volunteer files for all active volunteers, and tracks volunteer hours.
    • Maintains the Red Kettle database. Provides support to the Red Kettle Campaign including but not limited to the recruitment and scheduling of bell ringers.
    • Acts as liaison to DHQ volunteer department, other volunteer agencies and other shelter programs.
    • Supervises volunteers through various work placement programs. Sends in timesheets as needed.
    • Tracks volunteer statistics and prepares monthly statistical report.
    • Initiates volunteer thank you notes, and appreciation and recognition throughout the year.
    • Plans and executes a semi-annual volunteer training event.
    • Plans, prepares and executes special projects as needed with volunteers and other staff.
    • Attends and represents The Salvation Army at community events and meetings.
    • Attends seminars or in-service trainings as requested.

     

    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position. 

     

    Education:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates preferred

    Experience:    

    • 3 to 4 years experience working with and/or supervising volunteers.

    - OR -

    Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

      

    Certifications:  Valid Wisconsin driver’s license with clearance to drive through TSA insurance.

     

    Skills:

    • Good computer skills, including Word, Excel, Publisher, email and Internet
    • Strong Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
    • Able to collaborate and work as a team with others on projects
    • Ability to interact with others in a professional manner
    • Good writing and public speaking skills, with experience in both
    • Effective oral communication skills
