  • Overview

    The Store Worker/Truck Helper position is a full-time position with a generous benefits package including health/dental/vision/hearing/life insurance as well as vacaton, sick, holiday and personal time off benefits.  The work schedule requires Saturday (every other) as well as some holidays.

     

    Under the direct supervision of the Thrift Store Manager, the Truck Helper assists in loading and unloading clothing, furniture and miscellaneous items from The Salvation Army truck.  This position will also assist in the store working with customers, lifting and carrying donated/purchased items and performing baling operations.  The majority of the work done in the position will be of the physical labor type. 

    Responsibilities

     

    • Assist truck driver with the pick up and delivery of merchandise and donated items.
    • Assist in loading and unloading the store truck, customers’ vehicles, and/or donors' vehicles.
    • Maintain the interior and exterior of the truck, both cab and box, in a clean and safe condition.
    • Assist with monitoring and schedulingroutine maintenance to include DOT inspections and alert the supervisor of needed repairs or safety concerns. Evaluate all donated merchandise for its possible use and determine whether to accept or reject the donation. Politely refuse unacceptable items.
    • Issue receipts for donated items per store policy.
    • Other duties required when not driving:
      1. When riding, perform spotter function outside the truck each and every time the truck is backed up.
      2. After training, perform clothes baling operations in a safe manner (operate baler, and move finished bales with the assistance of the forklift and/or pallet jack).
      3. After certification, operate forklift in a safe manner, ensuring all stacked items are securely stacked.
      4. Assist with sorting and pricing of donated materials and move good items to display area for sale. Discard items that are not of showroom quality.
      5. Assist with keeping the store clean. e.g., wash windows, dust, clean bathroom, vacuum and mop floors, carry out trash and other janitorial duties as necessary. At the end of each work day the sorting room, dock and work area will be cleaned and swept. 

    Qualifications

    Education & Certifications:   

    High school/equivalent diploma.

     

    Experience:    

    One year related work experience or two years’ work experience without diploma.  Combination of training and directly related work experience will be considered.
