    POSITION TITLE:                      Maintenance/Driver Worker

     

    LOCATION/DEPT:                      Blue Island/Crossgenerations

     

    REPORTS TO:                            Corps Officer & Office Coordinator

     

    FLSA CATEGORY:                       Non-Exempt

     

    STATUS TYPE:                           Flexible Part-Time

     

    DEPARTMENT MISSION  

    To support the full mission of The Salvation Army by providing maintenance support for the programs of the Blue Island Crossgenerations Corps and Community Center.

     

    OUTCOMES

    To keep inside and outside premises clean and maintain both cleaning equipment and supplies. This includes occasional pick-up/delivery of persons, items and food/donation pickups.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    Provide various custodial duties including:

    1. Empty all garbage containers throughout the building.
    2.  Wash, deodorize and sanitize bathrooms. Stock supplies 3-4 times weekly.
    3. Vacuum and spot clean rugs. Keep floors clean, waxed and buffed.
    4. Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment (ordered with approval of Corps Officer).
    5.  Outside grounds kept free of litter, grass kept mowed in summer and snow removed in winter.
    6.  Set up and cleanup for special programs.
    7. Wash windows inside and outside. Paint and wash walls as needed.
    8. Change light bulbs when needed. Clean or change filters as needed.
    9. Once a month, shut off power for half hour to let batteries in building (exit lights, fire alarm, etc.) run down to prevent burnout. The reset time clock, outside light timer and chapel light timer.
    10.  Perform minor repairs and maintenance of building and grounds.
    11. Work with, supervise and track time of Community/Christian Service volunteers.
    12. Inspect facility, supplies and equipment, and report damage, breakage or missing items. Report on items in need of repair or replacement.
    13.  Provide basic maintenance and record keeping on Corps vehicles. Ensure all documentation is up to date and all general maintenance is performed as scheduled.
    14.  Pick up food donations, pick up bread and other donations
    15.  Vacuum and wash van and truck as necessary to maintain a clean vehicle.
    16.  Carry out vehicle maintenance needs as scheduled and assigned by Corps Office or Office Coordinator.
    17.  Fulfill all maintenance tasks assigned.
    18.  All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

    • Minimum of a High School degree or GED equivalent.  
    • At least 2 years experience as a licensed driver (CDL license preferred). Experience driving a 12-passenger van
    • Experience in towing a 12 foot trailer
    • Some building maintenance experience.
    • Knowledge of methods used in general housekeeping.
    • Knowledge of tools, equipment and supplies used in janitorial and maintenance work.
    • Valid Driver’s license/MVR clearance.

    • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT 

    • This position is required to do strenuous physical work and must be able to lift 70 pounds.
    • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use maintenance equipment, move and transport donations.
    • Must be able to drive and walk up two flights of stairs.
    • The work environment for this position includes a community center, residential and outdoor environment with a low to high noise level.
    • May work in inclement weather.
