    POSITION TITLE:             Christmas Volunteer Assistant

     

    LOCATION/DEPT:             Winnebago County

     

    REPORTS TO:                    Volunteer Coordinator

     

    FLSA CATEGORY:              Non-Exempt

     

    STATUS TYPE:                  Temporary Full-Time

     

    OUTCOMES

    This position is primarily responsible for promoting the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army, and is expected to recruit and assist volunteers for the various Christmas operations.  This will in turn allow for growth of ongoing and future volunteer service ministries.

    Build and cultivate interpersonal relationships and share The Salvation Army’s story through the recruitment of individuals, groups and the general public

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Direct the effort at Christmas concerning volunteer Bell Ringers.  Recruit through service clubs, churches, individuals and organizations to assist with Christmas bell ringing.
    2. Maintain statistical information of each program or project.
    3. Keep volunteers informed of their various assigned locations.
    4. Schedule volunteers for various programs during Christmas.  Heavy emphasis is placed on scheduling volunteers for bell ringing and the Giving Tree program.  Scheduling is primarily done via phone calls.
    5. Use the online volunteer registration system for scheduling volunteers at: Registertoring.com.
    6. Work with program leaders to supply volunteers upon receiving written requests.
    7. Secure volunteers to assist with kettle counting each day.
    8. Share information daily on volunteer kettle locations with the Christmas Kettle Coordinator.
    9. All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
    • Previous administrative or office experience preferred.
    • Experience with a computer based work environment.

    • Good typing skills.
    • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, using diplomacy and good judgment.
    • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self starter.
    • An attention to detail.
    • A strong personal conviction for the mission of The Salvation Army.
    • An ability to work with confidential material.
    • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • This position is required to do light physical work.
    • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is
    • regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
    • The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low noise level.
