  • Overview

    Oversee and run the warming shelter – train and oversee temporary employees and volunteers; and keep a record of donations and needs for the seasonal warming shelter.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversee the seasonal warming shelter
    • Networks with other community agencies to maintain knowledge of services they provide (for referrals and to prevent duplication of services).
    • Enters warming shelter client data into Service Point.
    • Maintains and prepares reports and statistics required by The Salvation Army.
    • Maintains an organized filing system of confidential client records for the warming shelter.
    • Creates and reviews case plans regularly and assist clients with setting goals and developing action plans.
    • Oversee seasonal warming shelter employees and set weekly schedules
    • Coordinate volunteers and nightly food donations
    • Meets with the Social Services Director (and other program staff as needed) bi-weekly for client case reviews.
    • Uses the ServicePoint homeless management information system as a case management and tracking tool and ensure that all required data is entered in an accurate and timely manner.

    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position. 

     

    Education: Bachelors Degree in Social Work or other Human Services field is preferred

     

    Certifications:    None.

     

    Experience:  Supervisory experience preferred.   

     

    Skills:

    • Good computer skills, including use of Word, Excel, Internet and e-mail; able to quickly learn new programs.
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
    • Good organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Able to work independently.
    • Must be self-motivated and able to direct the work of others.
    • Confidentiality is a must.

    Supervisory Responsibility: Temporary warming shelter employees.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Employee must have reliable transportation to move about service area and between Salvation Army locations.

    Much of this job is performed indoors in normal room temperature conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
