Reporting to and under general supervision of the Corps Officer/Administrator, this role acts as a front-line resource with responsibility for guiding activities at the Thrift Store which fulfill the mission of the Salvation Army.
The store is open 6 days per week. The Store Assistant/Shift Manager must be able to work weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed, up to the maximum hours allotted per position/per week based on scheduling by the corps officer/administrator. Hours of operation may vary.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Assist in all Thrift Store operations which directly impact profitability and funding, including marketing, merchandising, donations, employee/volunteer scheduling and supervision.
Act as back-up and first in charge in the absence of a Store Manager.
High school or equivalent; related degree preferred (such as major in Accounting, Business, Marketing, or related area).
Three years experience in retail sales preferred, including one year experience as a manager, supervisor or team lead in a retail sales operation. Thrift Store experience is a definite plus.
Prior supervisory experience required.
Life experience working with people from diverse populations.
Ability to meet and maintain The Salvation Army Driver Qualification.
Ability to meet physical requirements of the position; extensive standing, walking, reaching. Bending and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Bi-lingual English / Spanish is a plus.
Knowledge of basic office equipment and use of computer, electronic cash register.
Figure and detail oriented. Knowledge of basic bookkeeping practices.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities (in the sole discretion of The Salvation Army) may be considered in lieu of the above.
