    Summary/Primary Purpose:  This is a ministry position responsible for planning, implementation, and daily operation of recreation programs, including, but not limited to the following:  Summer Day Camp, After-School Programs, Older Adult Programs, and Sports Leagues.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Driving is an essential role of the position. Preservation of licensing and fleet safety approval are a condition of continued employment.
    2. Reserve and schedule various field trips, including transportation.
    3. Cooperate with the Administrative Assistant to schedule and maintain awareness of programs on the main Corps calendar.
    4. Maintain and expand literacy program and integrate it into the recreation programs.
    5. Maintain discipline and safety of program attendees, staff, and volunteers.
    6. Recruit, train, and supervise staff and volunteers.
    7. Conduct orientation for staff, volunteers and/or parents.
    8. Conduct or assign daily devotional activity to all programs.
    9. Establish and maintain good rapport with Community leaders and associations/organizations.
    10. Develop and maintain sponsors for programming needs.
    11. Collect and process all payments promptly and according to Finance procedures.
    12. Complete monthly statistical reports.
    13. General upkeep of facilities and equipment.
    14. Schedule varies and can include evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
    15. All other duties as assigned.


    Supervisory Responsibilities:   This position will supervise the Assistant  Day Camp Director, Day Camp Counselors, various community center staff, and volunteers.


    Education and/or Experience:  High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), and at least 3 years in a Day Camp/Community Center position working with children of varied ages and backgrounds.


    Qualifications:  The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.


    1. Evidence of a Christian experience.
    2. Knowledge of basic Corps Community Center activities.
    3. Knowledge of the purpose and mission of The Salvation Army.
    4. Ability to relate to people of all ages.
    5. Ability to share Christian principles in terms children can comprehend.
    6. Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
    7. Intermediate skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.  As well as the ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
    8. Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment. Attention to details and filing is necessary
    9. Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
    10. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.


    Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.


    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  CPR/First Aid/AED certified.  Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 30 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate cleaning equipment.  This position will required the ability to lift and/or move more than 25 pounds occasionally.
