  • Overview

    Prepare and serve meals for shelter residents and clients of the meal program. Manage the meal program in the absence of the Food Services Manager.

    • Plan, prepare, and serve meals in conjunction with Food Services Manager. 
    • Sanitary work environment. 
    • Monitor donations and other food and non-food inventory. 
    • Help create and maintain a comfortable and respectful environment for clients. 
    • Clean and properly arrange the freezer, cooler, and pantry on a weekly basis. 
    • Under the direction of the Food Services Manager, oversee daily food pantry to include, but not limited to, maintaining current computer records of clients/activity, record and report accurate monthly statistics, assist volunteers with clients and pantry needs. 
    • Provide seasonal support as requested.
    • Be available to work nights and weekends. 
    • Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officers. 


    The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position. 



    • High School Diploma or equivalent. 
    • Computer literate and knowledgeable of MS Office necessary. 


    • Must have completed the Restaurant ServSafe Certifications program or will complete within (6) months of hire.
    • Must have valid driver's license and pass MVR requirements for Salvation Army insurance. 


    • One year food service experience. 


    • Ability to relate to individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds. 
    • Ability to be a self-starter; can work independently. 

    Supervisory Responsibility: Supervision of others will include supervision of volunteers (individuals and groups), as assigned to facilitates activities. 


    Physical Requirements: 

    The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties of this job. 

    • Must be able to lift at least fifty (50) pounds. 
    • Must be able to correctly use equipment provided to aid in lifting and moving food and other donations. 
    • Must be able to hear using a standard telephone receiver. 

    Travel: Some travel will take place within the greater La Crosse area. Occasionally travel could be further. 


    Working Conditions: Conditions will also include standing, sitting, bending, stooping, lifting, and moving through a multiple level building. Condition will be both indoors and out but primarily  indoors.
