    The Salvation Army thrift store located in Springfield, Missouri, is looking for a part-time, 24 hours a week, Truck Driver.  This is a DOT regulated position that is responsible for driving vehicles weighing 10,001 lbs - 26,000 lbs to transport donated/purchased goods for the Thrift Store.  This position comes with benefits such as paid holidays, vacation time, sick time, and is eligible for participation in the company funded pension plan.  Starting pay is $8.50 an hour.

    Responsibilities

    1.  Drive or ride along in truck to pick up merchandise, including food, and make store deliveries as scheduled.

    2.  Assist in loading and unloading the box truck, customers’ vehicles, and/or donors’ vehicles.

    3.  When driving, conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, monitoring and scheduling routine maintenance and alerting the supervisor of needed repairs or safety concern.  Operate the vehicle in safe manner and in compliance with The Salvation Army Fleet Operation Manual.

    4.  Other duties required when not driving:

         a.  When riding, perform spotter function outside the truck each and every time the truck is backed up.   

         b.  After training, perform clothes baling operations in a safe manner (operate baler, move/stack bales which weigh up to 750 pounds).

         c.  After certification, operate forklift in a safe manner, ensuring all stacked items are safely stacked.  Monitor and schedule routine maintenance and alert the supervisor of needed repairs or safety concerns.

         d.  Assist with maintaining the food pantry and stores to include: wash windows, dust, clean bathroom, vacuum and mop floors, carry out trash and other janitorial duties as necessary.

    Qualifications

    Must be at least 21 years old.  High school/equivalent diploma and one year related work experience or two years work experience without diploma.  Position requires basic communications with customers and other employees.  Ability to comprehend written job description, city map, cleaning instructions and material safety data sheet.  Previous store worker experience is a plus.  Appropriate state drivers’ license is required, at least a class E for MO, and a class D or C (noncommercial license) for IL, and must pass TSA MVR check.  Must pass a road test, and a D.O.T. physical before operating a D.O.T. regulated vehicle.  Forklift operator certification must be obtained before operating the forklift.  It is required that anyone operating the forklift be properly trained and have the appropriate license.  Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision. 

     

    Physical and Work Environment Requirements:  Must be capable of performing the above essential duties.  Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.  Capable of frequently lifting 70 pounds, and occasionally lifting more than 100 pounds.  Frequently lifts or moves 100 pounds or more with assistance of another person/forklift/floor jack/dolly/cart or truck.  Majority of lifting is from floor to waist high.  Some lifting required above waist and shoulder high but it will be at a reduced weight.  Position is expected to:  Bend, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, carry and push/pull items.  Most of this work will be outside.  In the winter it will be cold and in the summer it will be hot.
