  • Overview

    The Community Center Program Assistant assists in the creation and facilitation of educational, arts and enrichment, tutoring, and recreation programs of The Salvation Army Community Center. This may include instruction, youth supervision, and supervision of facilitates and equipment.

    • Assist with the Education Program 
    • Assist with Tutoring Program 
    • Assist with Recreation Program
    • Enforce the code of conduct
    • Monitor computer lab as needed
    • Other duties as assigned and appropriate

    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience. knowledge, skills and/or abilities required for this position. 

     

    Education: Minimum of 18 years of age. Experience in tutoring or teaching youth, preferably in a classroom setting. 

     

    Certifications: Valid Wisconsin Driver's license with clearance by The Salvation Army's insurance carrier. May operate motor vehicles in the execution of some essential functions if approved to drive. 

     

    Experience: 

    • Knowledge of: 
      • Child Development, education and literacy. 
      • De-escalation and crisis intervention techniques. 
      • Professional boundaries and ethics. 
      • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. 
      • The Salvation Army's Safe From Harm Program. 

    Skills:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with children, parents, and professionals. 
    • Strong time management and organizational skills. 
    • Strong computer skills, including Internet, email, Word. 
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of program participants. 
    • Use a variety of office equipment including a computer, telephone, fax, printers and copiers. 

    Working Conditions: 

    Much of this job is performed indoors in normal room temperature conditions. When the duties require being outdoors, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
