  • Overview

    This is a temporary full time position - without benefits.  The Day Camp Counselor’s role is to provide support and supervision to the children enrolled in The Salvation Army’s Summer Youth Day Camp Program and to work closely with the Day Camp director in implementing the program on a daily basis.  This position has a workweek expectation of 30 hours per week.  Employment period for this position is June 18, 2018 to August 24, 2018.

    Responsibilities

    • Must participate in all Day Camp activities
    • Must assist with the daily safety of approximately 8 campers
    • You should work closely with staff and children. You should get to know them well, within the Safe From Harm guidelines
    • Assist the staff as with duties that relate to the day camp operation
    • Follow Day Camp daily schedule
    • Must be prepared to swim daily, (see program schedule)
    • Help campers obey rules by modeling appropriate behavior
    • Take a leadership role in all Day Camp activities
    • Have a positive attitude toward Day Camp activities
    • Arrive at the job on time and be prepared for the day’s programs
    • Help with clean-up of the site daily
    • Assist the Day Camp Director with ideas for the betterment of The Salvation Army’s Summer Day Camp
    • Ride in the van or bus to all field trip locations

    Qualifications

    Ability to work with all ages.  Able to work on your own, using initiative in planning and assisting with program as led by the Day Camp Director. Maintain professional manner towards the children, the families, and other staff at all times and be able to communicate openly.  Must be able to maintain confidentiality.  It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
