  • Overview

    To develop and coordinate the volunteer program for The Salvation Army of Waukesha, including but not limited to recruitment and training and supervision of volunteers.

    Responsibilities

    • Recruit long-term, short-term and special event volunteers for all program areas as needed. 
    • Update and maintain all online volunteer databases and sites including but not limited to: Volunteer First, Volunteer Match, Volunteer Impact and the United Way Volunteer Center site. 
    • Develop and maintain volunteer applications, job descriptions, manuals and orientation information. 
    • Conduct volunteer interviews and orientations as needed in cooperation with other departments. 
    • Screen all volunteer applications to ensure positions are filled with qualified individuals.
    • Ensure all background checks for volunteers are completed in accordance with agency policies and procedures. 
    • Maintain volunteer files for all active volunteers and track hours. 
    • Maintain the volunteer database (including Kettle Database) with updated contact information. 
    • Work cooperatively with all departments to ensure their volunteer needs are met. 
    • Act as agency liaison to Volunteer Center, RSVP, DHQ volunteer department and other volunteer agencies as needed. 
    • Work with Wisconsin Community Services to coordinate Huber and community service volunteers. 
    • Supervise volunteers through the SER, W2 and workmen comp placement programs. Send in time-sheets as needed. 
    • Track volunteer statistics and prepare monthly statistical report. 
    • Initiate volunteer thank you notes and appreciation throughout the year. 
    • Plan and execute an annual volunteer appreciation event. 
    • Assist with supervision of volunteers as needed. 
    • Plan, prepare and execute special projects as needed with volunteers and other staff (i.e. postal food drive, Christmas).
    • Provide public presentations to various community groups (i.e. service clubs, schools) to recruit volunteers. 
    • Work with local companies to encourage volunteering. 
    • Provide support to the Red Kettle Campaign including but not limited to the recruitment and scheduling of bell ringers. 
    • Attend and represent The Salvation Army at community meetings as required including Association of Volunteer Managers, Backpack Coalition, etc. 
    • Attend seminars or in-service trainings as requested. 
    • Support the Office Staff by assisting with answering phones, greeting and providing information to guests and accepting donations. 
    • Send Constant Contact e-newsletters. 
    • Keep the website, facebook, and twitter accounts current and up to date. 
    • Other duties as assigned. 

    Relationships: The Volunteer Coordinator is expected to maintain positive and cooperative relationships with all staff. They will recruit and coordinate volunteers, and work with all departments including Social Services, Building Maintenance, Youth and Food Service. 

    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position. 

     

    Education: 

    • High School Diploma or equivalent with additional post-high school relevant education preferred. 

    Experience: 

    • Experience working with and/or supervising volunteers. 
    • Must possess proficient computer skills, including Word, Excel, Publisher, and Internet. 
    • Strong Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize. 
    • Detail oriented with the ability to  multi-task. 
    • Must be willing to cooperate, collaborate and work as a team with others on projects.
    • Ability to interact with others in a professional manner. 
    • Must have good writing and public speaking skills, with experience in both. 

    Supervisory Responsibility: Directly supervised by the Corps Officers and assist staff with the supervision of volunteers.
