To provide basic information about The Salvation Army Social Services, assist with the delivery of HeatShare and Emergency Social Services, and provide clerical assistance. This is a regular full time position with a workweek expectation of 40 hours per week.


• Answer telephone, provide information, transfer calls, and take accurate messages as needed.
• Greet clients, notify staff of client’s arrival, and assist staff in gathering paperwork.
• Assist walk-in clients by providing information, an appointment, or a referral as needed.
• Provide basic information and answer questions regarding Social Services programs.
• Schedule Emergency Social Services clients and perform intake, when appropriate.
• Assist clients with foodshelf, transportation assistance, and vouchers.
• Assist office staff in foodshelf maintenance (donations, stocking, bagging, and cleaning).
• Keep adequate supply of forms on hand.
• Update referrals and informational handouts for clients.
• Maintain required statistics (i.e. referrals, calls, etc.) as required by Team Leader.
• Keep accurate case notes of phone calls, interviews, etc.
• Participate in office and department meetings, annual retreat, and other meetings as appropriate.
• Participate in monthly supervision meetings with Team Leader.
• Accurately complete timecard daily and turn into Team Leader at appropriate time.
• Data entry and computer updating as requested.
• Assist with mailings.
• Assist with other department programming and seasonal events.
• Attend educational opportunities when appropriate.
• Other duties that is specific to the office location and as assigned by Team Leader.
• Actual duties performed may vary widely according to the services offered at assigned work location.


• High School diploma or GED, some college social service coursework preferred.
• Understanding of the delivery of Social Services.
• Friendly and cooperative reception and secretarial skills (phone skills, personal relations, organization, typing, filing, and computer word processing).
• Ability to accept supervision and work well with clients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups.
• Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, and objectives of The Salvation Army.
• Must pass the background checks.
• Must meet the drivers MVR qualifications.
• It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
