The Salvation Army thrift store located in West Frankfort, Illinois, is looking for a full-time, 40 hours per week, Thrift Store Manager.  This positions comes with a great benefits package including medical, dental, and life insurance, paid holidays, vacation time, sick time, and is eligible for participation in the company funded pension plan.  


This position assists the Corps Officers or Thrift Store Consultant in the daily operation of the thrift store.  The store manager will assume managerial duties to include: opening and closing store, managing bank deposits, oversee planning and scheduling of daily work activities of employees and volunteers.  The store manager is also expected to perform all functions of a thrift store worker.  This includes but is not limited to:  working with customers; lifting and carrying donated/purchased items; stocking, pricing and placing items for sale; answering phones; making change for purchased items, etc.   Position is expected to comply with and meet The Salvation Army, Federal, State and Local policies and standards.


1.  Forecast sales and develop business strategy.

2.  Promote store sales. 

3.  Solicit donations from major stores.

4.  Maintain good customer relations as is expected by all staff and volunteers.

5.  Assist Corps Officer with budget preparation.

6.  Serve on Thrift Store Committee.

7.  Attend meetings as required and keep personnel informed of policies and directives.

8.  Evaluate individual employee’s contributions and areas needing improvement through formal employee evaluation process.

High school or equivalent diploma, one year related work experience with some supervisory experience.  Combination of education and experience will be considered.  Supervising retail sales and cash register experience are a plus.  Ability to successfully interact with a wide variety of people, primarily the retail public.  Must be a team player, a self-starter, a good motivator of others, and perform well with minimal supervision.  Must have a working knowledge of bookkeeping skills and effective oral and written communication skills.  Some computer experience necessary.  Must be bond-able, have the appropriate valid driver’s license and pass The Salvation Army MVR check.  Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment.


Physical and Work Environment Requirements:  Must be capable of perform the above essential duties.  Must be capable of regularly lifting 20 pounds and sometimes up to 40 pounds.  Some work will be done in an area with limited temperature control.  It will be hot in the summer and cold in the winter.  The noise level is moderate.
