Overview

Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Maintenance & Material Handler maintains the Distribution Center Building and assists with donations in accordance with company policies and procedures. 

Responsibilities

  • Cleans the Distribution Center offices, meeting rooms, hallways, restrooms, and warehouse areas needed according to established procedures. This includes sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, cleaning toilets, keeping restrooms supplied with essential toiletries; removing trash and garbage; cleaning windows and glassdoors; dusting furniture, etc. 
  • Keeps grounds and parking lot clean from broken glass, trash, etc. Removes trash from outdoor garbage containers. 
  • Prepares meeting rooms as directed, setting up tables, chairs, equipment as needed in a timely fashion. 
  • Monitors cleaning supplies, notifying supervisor of low inventories. 
  • Identifies and reports to supervisor any maintenance needs of the facility, such as replacement of fluorescent lights, ballasts, light bulbs, repairs, leaks, etc.
  • Assists with inventory of donations received and documentation of donation distribution.
  • Pickups of donations, deliveries of stock, as directed by supervisor. 
  • Sorts materials and donations coming into the warehouse. 
  • Assists with maintaining all equipment and vehicles in proper working order. 
  • Paints building and rooms or equipment as directed. 
  • Assists with minor building repairs as directed. 
  • Assists with maintaining the grounds, performing snow removal, hedge trimming, and other seasonal property needs as assigned. 
  • Follows and complies with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintains departmental housekeeping standards. 
  • Strips, waxes, and buffs tile floors as directed; spot cleans and shampoos carpets as needed. 
  • Assists in unloading/loading deliveries to/from the Distribution Center. 
  • Operates forklift and pallet jacks to receive deliveries and move items in warehouse. 
  • Assists with general property security concerns. Including but not limited to securing of the building and setting alarms. 

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Assists with the supervision of volunteers personnel and community service workers assigned to the Distribution Center. 
  • Assists with special projects and programs as assigned. 
  • Picks up supplies or donations and makes deliveries as directed by the supervisor. 
  • Any other duties as assigned and appropriate to the Maintenance & Material Handler position. 

Materials and Equipment: Uses a variety of cleaning chemicals, and tools and equipment such as mops, brooms, vacuums, buffers, shampooers, etc. May operate motor vehicles including vans and 24' truck or rental vehicles. Uses shovels, snow blowers, lawn mowers/tractors, and other equipment for grounds maintenance. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Six months of related work experience. 

Licenses and Certifications: 

  • Forklift Certification, within 30 days of hire. 
  • Valid driver's license and maintain clearance to drive from TSA's insurance carrier. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to use power equipment such as buffers, shampooers, vacuums, snow blowers, mowers, etc.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

 

The facility is a warehouse and temperatures may be cool or hot depending on the season.
