Hours are flexible and will vary depending on need.  Hours can be up to 30-35 the weeks before Christmas.

JOB SUMMARY

To represent The Salvation Army by driving and picking up toys from local businesses to distribute during our Angel Tree and Toyland distribution programs.

Responsibilities

SSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DRIVERS:

• Responsible for picking up toys at Angel Tree collection sites

• Must pass a criminal background check and The Salvation Army motor vehicle check.

  1. Report to work promptly as scheduled.
  2. Work hours will vary depending on need with the most hours being the 2 weeks before Christmas.
  3. A 30 minute break will be allowed for shifts of 6 or more hours.
  4. Represent The Salvation Army and its programs.
  5. Responsible for collecting toys at various business locations throughout Omaha
  6. Call supervisor on duty if driver needs to leave early for any reason.
  7. Represent The Salvation Army by dressing and behaving appropriately.
  8. Collect toys along the schedule and route provided, access to a GPS or mapping system is helpful but not required.
  9. Be cordial and polite to the public.  Smile, make eye contact and greet people with “Thank you,” “Merry Christmas,” or other appropriate greeting.
  10. Remain alert and aware of your surroundings, practice driving safety and precautions at all times.
  11. Drivers are not allowed to handle cash or coins.  Return all checks to Angel Tree Supervisor or ask the business to mail the checks to The Salvation Army Angel Tree program.
  12. Must be able to drive for long periods of time.
  13. Must be able to lift boxes and bags up to 40 lbs.
  14. Follow Corps policies and procedures.

Must Not:

  1. Will not leave vehicle running while unattended.
  2. Possess or use tobacco, gum, alcohol, weapons or illegal drugs.
  3. Will not eat or be on cell phone or text while driving.
  4. Be distracted (conversations with friends, shopping, etc.).
  5. Use profanity or become argumentative with the public.
  6. Take Toys or Money for personal use.
  7. Fail to follow all procedures and policies.

This individual interacts with a wide variety of people on a daily basis and acts as

a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED  

This position is supervised by the Angel Tree Supervisor and an assigned coordinator. 

Each driver must perform their responsibilities within established policies and

guidelines.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

  • A High School degree or GED is preferred but not required.  
  • Experience working with the public desired.
  • Pass background and driving record check.

 REQUIREMENTS  

  • Must be clean, neat and well groomed.
  • Dressed appropriately for the location and weather.
  • A smiling, friendly and cheerful attitude.
  • Prompt and consistent in attendance.
  • Responsible for items assigned (carts,equipment, etc) to your care.
  • Flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  • A willingness to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.

BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENT

Location assignment requires a criminal background check clearance in order to comply with business location’s policies. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT 

This position requires entering and exiting a vehicle multiple times, driving for long periods and lifting/loading boxes up to 40lbs.
