POSITION TITLE:             Weekend Maintenance & Emergency Response Worker

                                          Friday-Saturday 3rd Shift: 10pm-9am (10 hr. shift /1 hr. lunch)

 

LOCATION/DEPT:             Emergency Disaster Services (EDS)

 

REPORTS TO (TITLE):     EDS Director

 

FLSA CATEGORY:            Non-Exempt

 

STATUS TYPE:                 Part-Time (20 hours/week)

 

OUTCOMES:  The Maintenance and Emergency Response Worker works in concert with other EDS team members to ensure a clean, safe, reliable EDS facility, as well as prepare and maintain EDS equipment for readiness and optimal performance during emergency disaster operations. This person will also be responsible to respond to emergency call outs during their shift.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Act as the primary canteen response personnel during shift.
  2. Facilities and equipment cleaning, maintenance and light repairs
    • General Housekeeping of entire office and warehouse space
    • Washing and maintaining east and west bays
    • Stripping, cleaning, waxing and buffing floor surfaces per determined schedule
    • Wash and maintain all EDS vehicles inside out on a scheduled basis
    • Clean and re-stock EDS canteens to prepare for emergency or special duty when returning from a call-out response
    • Light vehicle repairs and maintenance, i.e., oil changes
    • Clean all EDS refrigerator and freezer units on scheduled basis
    • Cut lawn as necessary
    • Clear parking lot of snow as necessary
  1. Manage warehouse operations after regular business hours including stocking incoming donations and supplies, palletizing, packing, taking inventory and cleaning
  2. Organize warehouse set-up, vehicles, equipment and inventory for scheduled volunteer activities as approved by the EDS Director.
  3. Keep the Director of Emergency Services aware of any issues or concerns related to the operation of the facility.
  4. Complete any additional assignments as needed by the Director, including but not limited to other department duties.
  5. Additional responsibilities in a major disaster activation status:
    • Be prepared to shift to day time hours on a temporary basis
    • In the event of a major disaster, must be willing to deploy if necessary.
    • Supervise additional volunteers assigned to your area of responsibility
    • Support expanded warehouse operations, specifically in the area of coordinating disaster products and donations storage and distribution.
  1. Complete additional assignments as needed by the Director, including but not limited to other department duties.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

A high school diploma or equivalent experience.

 

EXPERIENCE

Certified Fork-lift operator

Class C or CDL license

If not in place at time of hire, these must be completed within the designated probationary period or employment may be terminated. 

Two to five years of experience maintaining properties, including a good general knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for lengthy periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to walk, reach with arms and hands, and stoop, kneel or crouch.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50-100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to focus.  The work environment for this position includes a warehouse environment with an average noise level and varying seasonal temperatures.
