Responsible for managing the thrift store in accordance with policies and procedures to achieve store sales and profit objectives and responding to customer requests and concerns, as well as assisting in the receipt/sorting of donations and sales of thrift store goods. Also, directs thrift store volunteers as necessary.  This is a regular full time position with a workweek expectation of 40 hours per week.



  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients and visitors; respect of others’ property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates.
  • Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every donor, contact and colleague appropriately and without discrimination of any kind.
  • Manage the thrift store operations: merchandising, sales promotions, scheduling of the staff, deposits, as well as other store duties as assigned by the officer in charge.
  • Maximizes sales and store profits by ensuring all merchandise is processed in a timely manner, ensure good customer service, train employees and volunteers a needed, manage inventory effectively, manages cash handling functions, manages expenses to maximize profits. Implements and manages merchandise space, and visual displays.
  • Ensure excellent customer service through proper staffing to ensure customer loyalty. Manages and coaches employees and volunteers, leads by example, establishes goals, and provides feedback to the Store Committee to enhance the communication process.
  • Actively involved in the recruiting process of volunteers to meet the staffing needs of the store. Develops staffing schedules to ensure customer service and salary cost objectives are met.
  • Executes and manages the merchandise mark down strategy as directed. Ensures integrity of the inventory through the proper ticketing procedures.
  • Evaluates results against plan and takes appropriate action as necessary.
  • Observes practices of competitors and takes appropriate action as necessary.
  • Selects a style that will achieve the most effective results in each situation based upon human factors and the situation at hand.
  • Develop a positive team that delivers a shopping environment that meets or exceeds customer expectations and manages inventory effectively.
  • Manages expenses to maximize profits.
  • Must be able to go into the community, meet with business owners to solicit donations for the store.

The position requires a high school diploma/GED with relevant management and supervisory experience. Must be amiable, helpful, courteous, and respectful demeanor, with ability to work well with others and have strong sills in communication, team building, sales, customer service and visual merchandising.  Must be willing to support the mission of The Salvation Army, possess a valid drivers' license, meet the drivers’ MVR qualifications and pass the background checks.  It must also be understood by the incumbent that the position is subject to the requirements of Safe From Harm upon commencement of employment, and that the required Safe From Harm training program must be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
