SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE:  Maintain a safe and secure environment for all employees, residents, and visitors to the complex, as indicated by security policies. 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs property security rounds and building opening/closing procedures per shift.
  2. Monitors and sign in-out all visitors and clients to complex and escorting funds/visitors between complexes and vehicles when requested.
  3. Responsible to respond immediately and appropriately to all emergencies, including:  Fire, Medical, Bio Hazard, bomb threats, inclement weather and building emergency situations.
  4. Must be able to quickly assess any given situation and take appropriate actions to protect employees, clients, and visitors.
  5. Responds to all code/alarm activations and notifications to effectively manage the situation through to its successful completion.
  6. Participates in performing tours of facilities, examining access control points for appropriate security measures, assesses and reports environmental deficiencies (e.g., lights out, fire doors broken, excessive hallway clutter, missing or undercharged fire extinguishers, etc.), and observes the operational environment  for any safety and/or security concerns.
  7. Responsible for surveillance of property through use of computer-linked security and access control systems and the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems.  
  8. Required to attend bi-monthly security meetings and as well as attending training required to maintain job related certifications.
  9. Responsible for maintaining provided uniforms and always presenting in a professional and clean manner.
  10. Driving is an essential function of the position.
  11. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. One to two years of work experience preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database, internet, spreadsheet and word processing software such as Microsoft Word and Excel, Lotus Notes and WINPAC Access plus the ability to operate a laptop computer and printer.  Responds to computer system messages and alarms according to established security policies and procedures.  General computer knowledge is required to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Current First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:  Must pass all applicable background checks.  Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside.  Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.  English proficiency sufficient for communication with supervisors, co-workers, clients and customers.

The employee maybe required to climb nine (9) flights of steps during a fire emergency to help with evacuation.  Special vision abilities are not required for this job.
