SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE: Prepares and cooks a variety of balanced meals for the Winter Night Watch Program and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
1.Driving is an essential function of the position.
2.Responsible for preparing nutritious meals for the Winter Night Watch Program.
3.Responsible for following weekly menus prepared by the Food Pantry Coordinator.
4.Responsible for cleaning food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, dishes/utensils/pans.
5.Responsible to make sure trash from food preparation process is disposed of properly.
6.Maintain sanitation and follow health and safety standards in work areas.
7.Properly secure left-over food in refrigerators or freezers, label and date.
8.Verify that prepared food meets requirements for quality and quantity.
9.Wash, cut and prepare foods designated for cooking.
10.Prepare enough food for the anticipated number of people being served.
11.Be sure to check food temperatures before food is loaded on the canteen.
MARGINAL DUTIES: Other similar and related duties may be assigned. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises volunteers and Experience Works employees assigned to the kitchen.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must obtain a Serve Safe Food Handlers Certificate and keep it current for the duration of the position.
COMPUTER/PROGRAM SKILLS: Must demonstrate basic computer skills for communication and research. Ability to operate a desk top computer. Ability to access and produce information from a computer. Ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Must pass all applicable background checks.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as kitchen appliance doors, drawers, etc. Ability to lift and carry 25-40 pounds on a regular basis. Example: moving containers of food around the kitchen.
