The Lifeguard will assist with the implementation of programs, special events, and swim lessons. The Lifeguard will also monitor activities, observe and provide assistance to swimmers, prevent accidents, protect life and enforce regulations. The Lifeguard will also ensure they are positioned in accordance with the State of Wisconsin approved aquatic staffing plan.  Position is also required to assist with general facility maintenance and perform other maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.

  • Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors and employees.  Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions.  Maintain order in swimming areas.
  • Assist in development, training, and teaching American Red Cross swim lessons when assigned as a Water Safety Instructor.
  • Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
  • Provide first aid, rescue breathing and CPR when needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas.
  • Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients and members are given prompt and courteous service.
  • Follow and enforce the equipment checkout program. Report defects, necessary repairs, etc.
  • Ensure that all equipment assigned to the aquatic facilities is maintained and properly inventoried on a regular basis.
  • Perform set up and breakdown of facility equipment as needed.
  • Implement water chemical tests as determined by the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain records and generate reports regarding programs and operations as needed.
  •  Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
  • Must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Supervisor.
  • Other tasks as required.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT: Uses a variety of office equipment including a computer, telephone, fax machine, copiers, printers and projection machines.



1 year of continuous experience in lifeguarding and swim lesson instruction in a group environment preferred.

Experience working with adults, youth, and children.



American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED certification and American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required.  American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor preferred.


Bilingual English / Spanish speaker preferred.

  • Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office products, e-mail, and Internet.

This job is performed at times in an office environment at normal room temperature.  The noise level in this work environment is usually low.

For other duties of this job, such as outdoor special events and community center activities, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.  The noise level in the work environment at these events is usually moderate to loud.
