Overview

SUMMARY

Maintains the operations of the register area by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Rings up merchandise, totals bill, accepts payment and makes change for customers. Wraps or bags merchandise for customers.
  • Responsible to maintain good customer relations by giving prompt, courteous assistance to customer
  • Stock racks, shelves, counters or tables with merchandise.
  • Safeguard cash at all times, and uphold Salvation Army money handling policies and procedures.
  • Make PA announcements regularly by reciting daily specials, upcoming events, policies and reminders.
  • Be able to properly open and close registers according to procedures in the Manager-in-Training manual.
  • Clean shelves, counter or tables, make sure register area is stocked at all times.
  • Greet customers entering and exiting the store.
  • Use polite and professional phone etiquette when answering store calls and remain helpful.
  • Know the layout of the store to be able to direct customers accordingly.
  • Use back guard provided when doing any substantial lifting or moving.
  • Support the mission statement of The Salvation Army.

 

 

OTHER DUTIES

All tasks or assignments as assigned by a supervisor or administrator.

Responsible for adhering to all procedures and guidelines as outlined in the Store Manager-in-Training manual.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

None.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to speak effectively in work area. Read and understand English.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CLERICAL/MATHEMATICS SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to operate a cash register. Ability to operate a computer.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must be bondable.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee is frequently required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is a store setting with some temperature control and moderate noise levels.
