    Ray & Joan KROC Corps Community Center Purpose Statement:  Inspire people to discover their God given talents and develop their potential through artistic, educational, physical, and spiritual experiences in a Christ-centered atmosphere.


    Summary/Primary Purpose:  The Swim Team Coach is responsible for providing instruction as well as organizational and logistical support for the Kroc Center Swim Team program.


    WORK SCHEDULE:  Saturday and Sunday - some swimming meets; Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Friday 5:00p to 7:30p.



    1. Working with the Aquatics Manager to plan, schedule, and staff periodic swim events, including swim and stroke clinics, Swim-a-Thon, and intrasquad meets.
    2. Serving as deck coach for a minimum of three workouts a week (about two hours/workout).
    3. Preparing workouts in advance taking into account the varying skill levels of the swimmers.
    4. Developing a training cycle, taking into consideration the varying levels of commitment and goals of both noncompetitive and competitive swimmers.
    5. Ensuring all practice changes, pool closures, upcoming activities, and competitions are communicated to swimmers by e-mail and at each workout.
    6. Fostering a welcoming environment for new swimmers with the goal of retaining swimmers who come to the Kroc Center and encouraging team participation.
    7. Keeping attendance records, and performing other administrative tasks and record keeping requirements as required by the Aquatics Manager.
    8. Schedule varies and will include evening, weekend and holiday hours.
    9. All other duties as assigned.


    Supervisory Responsibilities: None


    Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Undergraduate degree in sports or recreation related field preferred. Swim team coaching experience preferred.


    Qualifications:  The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.


    1. Excellent communication skills including interpersonal skills.  English proficiency and Spanish language skills helpful.
    2. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
    3. Exceptional flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
    4. General computer knowledge is required to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
    5. Ability to collaborate and work within a team.
    6. Attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
    7. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters
    8. Ability to travel to offsite meets and/or competitions will be required.
    9. Strong independent judgement.


    Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.


    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Must successfully complete Safe From Harm training as established by The Salvation Army. Lifeguard/Adult CPR/First Aid certification required. Water Safety Instruction certified preferred.

    Physical requirements include good speaking, hearing, vision, and excellent manual dexterity.

    Ability to sit for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.  This position may be required to lift up to 15 pounds.


    Working Conditions:  Primary work environment is warm and humid (natatorium) and may be considered moderately loud in nature.
