POSITION TITLE:                 Recreation Assistant  

 

LOCATION/DEPT:                Crystal Lake Corps

 

REPORTS TO:                      Community Center Coordinator

 

FLSA CATEGORY:              Non-Exempt

 

STATUS TYPE:                    Flexible Part-Time

 

OUTCOMES

The Recreation Assistant will assist in the leadership and supervision over the recreational component of various Corps programs.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Organize and implement recreational activities for specified Corps/Community Center programs.
  2. Secure recreational equipment from gym storage and ensure that it is properly and safely set-up before recreational activities begin.
  3. Return recreational equipment to gym storage following completion of activities.
  4. When directed, host outside groups in their use of the Corps/Community Center facilities.
  5. Provide supervision of the use of facilities as needed.
    1. Supervise volunteers and helpers in the safe use of Community Center facilities and its equipment.
    2. Ensure that gym policies and procedures are followed.
  6. Engage in bridging participants to Corps/Community Center spiritual programs.
    1. Have a working and practical familiarity with Salvation Army programs to make referrals as needed.
  7. Recommend needed equipment and supply purchases and maintenance requests to the Community Center Coordinator.
  8. Provide other assistance and direction to Corps/Community Center programs as needed.
  9. All other duties as assigned.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Under general supervision of the Community Center Coordinator with some freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established community center policies and guidelines.

 

This individual relates to and interacts with a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army.  In these contacts, they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.

 

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the accuracy and completeness of accomplishing the assigned goals.  

Qualifications

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 1 years’ experience in working with community-based programs in a gym or recreational setting. An exposure to social services or faith-based organizations is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do light to moderate physical work and must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • In order to successfully perform essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary for some periods of time; use hands and fingers; communicate; move; position self to stoop, kneel or crouch; reach with and use arms and hands. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to focus. 
  • The work environment for this position includes an office or gym environment with a low to high noise level.
