Overview

SUMMARY

Oversees the operations of the bric-a-brac cost center by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate staff.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assign, direct and rotate to utilize in the most efficient manner the employees and beneficiaries working in the bric-a-brac department.
  • Oversee all personnel, maintain proper decorum of behavior and language as represents Salvation Army policy.
  • Stock racks, shelves, counters or tables with merchandise/supplies. Clean shelves, counters or tables and merchandise.
  • Understand the proper use of store fixtures and cost center terminology.
  • Help set up displays and arrange merchandise to promote sales. Understand the plan-o-gram as outlined at your specific store.
  • Be able to colorize from lightest to darkest according to The Salvation Army color chart.
  • Maintain quality and grading standards.
  • Must work at an appropriate pace to efficiently meet production goals. Must ensure processors meet pace and production.
  • Must meet expected production goals daily and weekly.
  • Keep processing table full by qualifying bric items and utilizing the slot method as outline in the Manager-in-Training manual.
  • Price unmarked items of bric-a-brac merchandise.
  • Understand and enforce the proper rotation of product.
  • Responsible to maintain good customer relations by giving prompt, courteous assistance to customers.
  • Know the layout of the cost center to direct customers accordingly.
  • Report safety hazards and ensure proper use, care and maintenance of processing equipment.
  • Must be able to apply all cost center policies and procedures as listed in the Store Manager-in-Training manual and enforce guidelines.
  • Order product through MOD and maintain accurate inventory of goods on hand, at all times.
  • Must train new personnel by regularly conducting training initiatives as outlined in the Store Manager-in-Training manual.
  • Must stay up to date on Consumer Product and Safety Commission rules, regulations and recalls.
  • Report to Supervisor any detrimental behavior by bric-a-brac personnel. Assist with reprimands at the request of Supervisor.
  • Responsible for Safe from Harm.
  • Use back guard provided when doing any substantial lifting or moving.
  • Support the mission statement of The Salvation Army.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or equivalent.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence and memos. Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to speak effectively to employees of work area.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CLERICAL/MATHEMATICS SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and hear, see or talk. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus and see color.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment for this position is typically a warehouse setting with moderate temperature control but can be exposed to outside weather. The noise level is moderate.
