POSITION TITLE:                     Program Assistant

 

LOCATION/DEPT:                    McHenry County/Golden Diners Nutrition Program

Based in Woodstock, IL but will be scheduled at various locations in McHenry County.
20 hours per week, $10.00 per hour, Monday-Friday.
 

REPORTS TO:                          Program Coordinator

OUTCOMES  

The Program Assistant provides key support to the operation of the program by functioning in a variety of roles, depending upon program need.  It is necessary the Staff Generalist be familiar with the purpose and philosophy of the Program and in hearty accord with the same, namely:

 

To provide older Americans, 60 years of age and over, with low cost nutritionally sound meals. Promote better health among the older segment of our population through improved nutrition, thus reducing the isolation of old age, and offering the older American the opportunity to live their remaining years in dignity.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  1. Fulfill the functions of Site Manager where assigned while maintaining a Food Service Sanitation License
    1. Oversee the day to day activities at the site.
    2. Execute the duties necessary to provide a Congregate Meal Program, including but not limited to:
      • Prepare, portion and serve food to diners
      • Maintain proper food temperatures
      • Act as Host/Hostess to participants and program speakers, creating a comfortable atmosphere for congregate participants
      • Set up and cleanup of site
      • Record keeping, donation counting and donation deposit
    3. Execute the duties necessary to provide a Home Delivered Meal Program, including but not limited to:
      • Coordinate drivers/volunteers to portion and package food for home delivered meals and see the delivery routes are assigned and followed as assigned by the Membership Coordinator
      • Report pertinent client information to the Membership Coordinator
      • Follow and ensure that Golden Diners Home Meal Delivery Guidelines and Procedures are adhered to
      • Work to maintain proper food temperatures on the route through proper packing of meals and the utilization of ice sheets and hot plates.
      • Ensure the daily sanitation of delivery bags.
      • Record keeping
  1. Fulfill the functions of Driver where assigned including but is not limited to:
    1. Assist kitchen personnel with portioning food into individual containers. Assist with packing meals for the routes.
    2. Deliver meals on route assignment of the day.
    3. Maintain temperatures so that hot meals are held at 140oF or higher and cold foods are held at 40oF or lower and keep Site Manager informed of any problems.
    4. Watch for signs of any changes regarding participants, i.e., failing health or well enough to be removed from route, etc. Report to Site Manager anything deemed important about the participant.
    5. Return to site after meals and report to the Site Manager or Membership Coordinator the record of meal delivery, changes for coming days and concerns regarding clients.
  1. Fulfill the function of Meal Route Delivery Driver, including but not limited to:
    1. Load meals and meal carriers into and out of program vehicles.
    2. Deliver, unload and bring meals inside nutrition sites and/or to the door of a senior client.
    3. Drive various routes based upon program needs.
    4. Take and record meal temperatures.
    5. Maintain accurate record of meals delivered and hand in the completed daily route sheets to Administrative office.
    6. Assist clients needing emergency care and maintain client confidentiality.
    7. Deliver vehicle for maintenance when instructed by Fleet Coordinator or Program Director.
    8. Complete and submit daily Pre-Trip Inspections and report vehicle and maintnenace concerns in a timely manner.
    9. Ensure vehicle’s cab, cooling and heating boxes and exterior are clean and tidy.
    10. Exercise care and caution by obeying all traffic rules.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Obtain Food Service Sanitation License within 90 days of hiring date.
  • Previous experience working with the senior population preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

POSITION LIMITATIONS

  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Program Coordinator informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do light to moderate physical work. Must be able to lift or move at least 20lbs. 
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard kitchen equipment.
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs and operate a vehicle, including in inclement weather.
  • The work environment for this position varies according to assignment and includes both office and outside environments with a low to high noise level.
