The position of Music Education Specialist is designed to identify, train and provide resources to support the mission and vision of The Salvation Army  through music ministry.

This position will strive to enhance music and fine arts ministry through the development and training of vocal, keyboard and instrumental music programs, utilizing the respective Music Arts Proficiency (MAP)


The Music Education Specialist will be instrumental in the establishment and evaluation of effective music and fine arts outreach and ministry activities for the Ray & Joan Kroc Centers in the Central Territory.


  1. Promote and disseminate age-appropriate vocal, instrumental (brass and percussion), guitar and ukulele M.A.P. curriculum for use
  2. Enhance music ministry by providing leadership and curriculum training for Singing Company, Youth Chorus and Youth Band
  3. Oversee the promotion, communication, scheduling and logistics of the annual Territorial Youth Band and Youth Chorus weekend
  4. Oversee the promotion, scheduling and logistics of the Singing Company Festival, focused on implementing well-attended divisional music days.
  5. Provide leadership, management and instruction as directed for territorial music events.
  6. Assist with hosting of visiting musical guests and groups as directed.
  7. Attend and contribute to department meetings as scheduled.
  8. Serve on the Territorial Music Committee and Territorial Music Council.
  9. Work as a team member, organizing and implementing office responsibilities, as relates to the Music and Gospel Arts Department, according to policies and procedures.




Bachelor’s degree in music education required. Master’s degree in related music field preferred



Minimum of four years related teaching and experience including being an active Salvationist musician and corps music leader. Experience with professional music and other performing arts organizations also preferred.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Piano performance and instruction skills
Knowledge of piano, children’s and youth choral music and pedagogy resources
Ability to relate well to others and to deal with a variety of situations and personalities – frequently in a multi-generational context
Experience in organizing and production of other fine arts programs including, but not exclusive to drama and dance
Good listening skills
Excellent communication skills required for public speaking and instruction in conference, classroom and rehearsal contexts
Excellent research and organizational skills
Working knowledge of computers (Word, Lotus Notes, & music education software)
Ability to write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication within The Salvation Army as well as the academic community and general public.
