Overview

Provide support to the Emergency Shelter Director by providing supervision and intake of clients, maintaining security, and providing supportive services in a Christian atmosphere.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake interview of incoming resident into shelter.
  • Assign a proper room and distribute needed bedding and personal items.
  • Provide necessary supervision of shelter and residents, assuring that rules and policies are being followed. Maintain an awareness of client needs. 
  • Answer telephone calls, taking messages when appropriate.
  • Do cleaning as necessary.
  • Prepare snacks for shelter residents.
  • Oversee lunch and dinner preparations in dining room.
  • Review log book and update entries as needed.
  • Supervise gym sleeper set-up, clean out lockers and do room inspections.
  • Distribute medications as needed.
  • Be responsible for the over -all cleanliness of the shelter areas.
  • Provide seasonal assistance as requested.
  • Other duties as appropriate and assigned.

 

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

 

Education:

  • High School Degree or Equivalent

Certifications:

  • NA

Experience:

  • Past experience working with the homeless population desirable.

Skills:

  • Ability to work positively with a diverse population necessary.
  • Needs to be able to function within a fast-paced environment and deal effectively with crisis solutions.
  • Should be a self-starter and also able to work as a team member.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Supervises volunteers and community service workers, when assigned.

Travel:

Some travel will take place within the greater La Crosse area. Occasionally travel could be further.

 

Working Conditions:

Conditions will also include standing, sitting, bending, stooping, lifting, and moving through a multiple level building. Conditions will be both indoors and out primarily indoors.
