RAY and JOAN KROC CORPS COMMUNITY CENTER PURPOSE STATEMENT           

Inspire people to discover their God given talents and develop their potential through artistic, educational, physical, and spiritual experiences in a Christ-centered atmosphere.

 

SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE

To teach safe and effective multi-level fitness and/or aerobic exercise classes to the members and guests of the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, the public, employees of The Salvation Army and Kroc Center, business and industry.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:  Up to 19 hours per week; Monday through Saturday.  We are hiring 5 positions to cover any of the following:  Lunch time 30-minute classes, early morning, mid-morning, evenings or Saturdays.  Classes include Boxing Coach/Instruction, Kickboxing, TRX (youth & adults), Functional Fitness, Yoga, Tai Chi, and Youth Exercise.  

Responsibilities

  1. Teach appropriate and safe general fitness and/or aerobics classes and/or small group personal training to Kroc Center members, guests and employees.
  2. Assist in keeping statistical information, class attendance and preparing evaluations as required.
  3. Assist in developing cooperative ventures that engage corporations, civic groups, churches, and community groups in the development of programs related specifically to the Health & Fitness Department.
  4. Maintain a safe work environment. Report all facility issues to the Health & Fitness Assistant and/or Manager.
  5. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army and Kroc Center policies and procedures.
  6. The work schedule varies and includes evenings and weekends with possible holiday hours.
  7. Attend all required department and facility meetings and training as assigned.
  8. Maintain and report damaged equipment and properly maintain classroom structure and cleanliness.
  9. Other similar and related duties may be assigned.

 

MARGINAL DUTIES:  Driving is a marginal duty of this position.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).  Some related experience teaching general fitness classes and/or personal training for individuals or small groups is preferred.

 

COMPUTER/PROGRAM SKILLS:  Proficiency in Microsoft programs including Word and Excel.  Basic computer knowledge is needed to access time clock and personal information via a web-based system. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: English proficiency sufficient for communication with supervisors, co-workers, clients and customers. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:  Must pass all applicable background checks.  Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside.  Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  National Accredited Certification such as but not limited to Aerobics and Fitness Association (AFAA), American Council on Exercise (ACE) or hold a specific certification in the class being taught; for example, Zumba®, AFAA Personal Trainer, or TurboKick®.  Requires CPR, AED and First Aid training and yearly renewal.

This position requires the ability to see, talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle or feel.  It also requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

 

Must be in good physical health and mental health, capable of meeting the demand of programming.  This position requires the incumbent to spend a large percentage of the workday on his/her feet standing, walking, climbing stairs, etc.

The position is exposed to indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year.  The noise level is moderate from operating fitness equipment and loud in class settings.
