Overview

Receives donations, process and display mechanise, operate cash register and complete sales transactions; assists with providing quality customer service as part of the Thrift Store Operations, as well as pick up morning donations from area business.

Responsibilities

  • Cross trains and works in all areas of store as needed.
  • Accepts and evaluates donations.
  • Maintains donation area cleanliness through the store's business hours.
  • Ensures quality of inventory by adhering to merchandise standards when accepting donations.
  • Cleans, prices and display merchandise.
  • Arranges merchandise displays throughout the store as assigned.
  • Operates cash register, assists with sales transaction and with the reconciliation of daily cash receipts.
  • Answers phone lines and provides customer service.
  • Assists customers on the sales floor and suggest sales when appropriate.
  • Builds positive donor relations by providing information regarding use of donations.
  • Actively supports a team environment among store associates.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and other trainings.
  • Ensures a safe work environment by keeping aisles and other areas clear of debris.
  • Picks up food donations from area businesses according to schedule.
  • Unloads donations from truck.

Qualifications

Education: N/A

 

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a retail environment is preferred, but not required.

Certifications:

  • Valid Michigan Driver's License with clearance to drive from TSA's insurance carrier.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Must possess basic computer skills and be able to use a cash register.
  • Exercise excellent customer service.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and work well with others, including volunteers and co-workers.
  • Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership and field personnel.

Physical Requirements:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties of this job. Physical requirements include:

  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.
  • Lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires bending, squatting and walking.
  • May stand for extended periods of time.

 

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a typical retail environment. May also require some weekend and evening work.
