Overview

Oversees resident use of laundry facilities and is responsible for the cleaning of all in-house laundry. May serve as a backup for janitorial duties.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and sort in-house laundry items according to color, fabric, dirt content, and cleaning technique required.
  • Regulate washing machine and dryer use. Maintain an appropriate volume of soap, detergent, water, bleach and other additives.
  • Load articles to be cleaned into washing machines and dryers. Items to include bed linens, blankets, pillows, towels, and kitchen linens.
  • Sort and fold articles removed from dryers.
  • Create new resident set-ups to include bed linens, pillows and towels.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of new resident set-ups at all times
  • Maintains and cleans the laundry room; including emptying trash, sanitizing surfaces and mopping the floor
  • Clean machine filters and lubricate equipment.
  • Assist in the laundry room sign-up process for residents.
  • Supervises residents’ use of laundry room, irons and ironing boards according to scheduled sign-up, and enforces Laundry Room rules with residents.
  • Serves as a backup for general janitorial duties and grounds maintenance for the Emergency Lodge, as assigned.
  • Follows and complies with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Assists in unloading/loading deliveries to/from the Emergency Lodge, as assigned

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

 

Education: No specific education level required.

 

Certifications: Valid Wisconsin Driver’s license preferred, with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army’s insurance carrier preferred.

                               

Experience: Six months experience in laundry, custodial, or maintenance.

 

Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to use power equipment such as laundry machines, buffers, shampooers, vacuums, snow blowers, mowers, etc.
