Job Summary

Set up, operate, maintain and repair AVL equipment used to produce church services, theater performances, concerts, recording sessions, conferences and events, such as mixing boards, microphones, video cameras, projectors, specialized lighting, computers and software.  Knowledge of recording studio software and mixing is necessary.  Video camera and lighting techniques is preferred, as is familiarity with video streaming, editing and software. Candidates must be self-motivated, creative and flexible with strong communication skills and the ability to interact with coworkers and volunteer teams, often under deadline pressure.


  1. Key Responsibilities


  1. Identify, troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve AVL and media systems problems throughout the RJKCCC campus


  1. Mix and regulate sound quality and feeds during live services, events and conferences


  1. Record, compress, digitize, duplicate, and store audio and video data both analog and digital


  1. Edit audio and video data for archiving, podcasts, video streaming, and the website


  1. Ensure worship teams are provided AVL support for musical performance prior to live events


  1. Provide AVL support at weddings, funerals, rehearsals or other special events as needed


  1. Organize and maintain compliance, license, and warranty information related to AVL equipment


  1. Track AVL equipment inventories and order supplies


  1. Notify the Operations Director when major equipment repairs are needed


  1. Coordinate and oversee all work activities of AVL subcontractors


  1. Direct and coordinate activities of event and facilities staff as required


  1. Determine formats, approaches, content, levels, and mediums to effectively meet objectives within budgetary constraints, utilizing research, knowledge, and training


  1. Design layouts of audio and video equipment, and perform upgrades and maintenance


  1. Inform users of audio and videotaping policies and procedures


  1. Obtain and preview musical performance programs prior to events in order to become familiar with the order and approximate times of pieces


  1. Control the lights and sound of events, such as live concerts, before and after performances, and during intermissions


  1. Locate and secure settings, properties, effects, and other production necessities


  1. Conduct training sessions on selection, use, and design of audiovisual materials and on operation of presentation equipment


  1. Develop manuals, texts, videos, workbooks, or related materials for use in conjunction with production materials or for training


  1. Install and position lights, lighting equipment, video cameras and other equipment as needed


  1. Conduct training sessions for volunteers on operation of AVL equipment


  1. Perform any other duties, as required, in support of the mission and vision of the St. Joseph County Kroc Center

  1. Expectations


  1. Keep current on all Territorial policies, requirements and regulations regarding the key areas of responsibility.


  1. Meet regularly with the Kroc Officer for Youth Development to discuss Youth Activities Center issues, scheduling and the coordination of Youth Activities Center and Kroc Corps events.


  1. Ensure the adherence to all safety and risk management policies and procedures for all specific Youth Activities designated spaces of the facility.


  1. Work in a cooperative manner with the other on-site managers and coordinators of the RJKCCC campus


  1. Attend all scheduled staff meetings and leadership team meetings when required.


  1. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.


  1. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.


  1. As a minimum, this position requires a high school diploma (or GED) and at least 5 years of hands-on AVL experience. Candidates with an associate degree, or higher, in Audio Visual Technology, or a related field, such as Digital Media are preferred. Credentialing, such as the Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification may also enhance job opportunities.

  2. Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification required.

  1. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.


  1. Ability to speak and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, employees, and customers.


  1. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.


  1. Must be able to work with, direct, and relate well with co-workers, staff and guests while maintaining the standards of The Salvation Army.


  1. Clearance of background check.


  1. Ability to lift and carry 20 lbs.


  1. Valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation.


  1. Spanish language proficiency preferred, but not a requirement.
