In keeping with the mission of The Salvation Army, The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center provides facilities, programs and services that strengthen, encourage and enrich children, adults, and seniors through positive life-changing experiences.

 

SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Water Safety Instructor will be responsible for planning and teaching group and private lessons at The Salvation Army Kroc Center.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive.  It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position.  The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.

 

  1. Instruct assigned classes according to American Red Cross Guidelines and swim level.
  2. Adapt teaching approaches to the age, experience level, and ability of participants so that they meet course objectives.
  3. Communicate regularly with participants to ensure they are aware of progress.
  4. Complete records and reports in a timely manner and return them to the Aquatics Supervisor.
  5. Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  6. Enforce all pool rules.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other duties as assigned and appropriate for this position.

Qualifications

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT: Uses a variety of office equipment including a computer, telephone, fax machine, copiers, printers and projection machines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent. 1+ years of swim lesson experience with a wide variety of ages and abilities is strongly preferred.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED certification and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification are required. American Red Cross Lifeguard certification is strongly preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. 
  • Ability to work in a team setting with other professionals. 
  • Knowledge of various American Red Cross swim levels and other water safety courses.

This job is performed at most times in the pool with high humidity and heat. The noise level in this work environment is usually low.

For other duties of this job, such as outdoor special events and community center activities, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.  The noise level in the work environment at these events is usually moderate to loud.
