POSITION TITLE: House Counselor (Part-Time Saturday and Sunday 3pm-11pm.)
LOCATION/DEPT: PROMISE Program
REPORTS TO: Administrator
The Salvation Army’s PROMISE program (Partnership to Rescue our Minors from Sexual
Exploitation) was launched in Chicago to combat the commercial sexual exploitation of children
through awareness, prevention, intervention, and service delivery.
We are currently expanding upon the services offered by PROMISE through a special program
that will provide a stable, nurturing family living environment for young women and girls ages
12 to 21 who are at risk for or who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation/sex
trafficking. The program will provide them with long-term trauma based treatment to enable
them to develop self-reliance and return to society.
The House Counselor's primary responsibility is the day-to-day care of the residents, adhering to the program and policies set by the Administrator. The House Counselor is the first-line position which involves nearly constant contact with the youth, working with them to resolve daily problems and to insure that they follow their daily activities including trauma therapy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This individual relates to and interacts with a wide range of contacts both within and outside the Salvation Army including residents, the Administrator, Case Manager, Therapist and outside contacts. In these contacts the individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.
Under general supervision of the Administrator with some freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities, within established policies and guidelines.
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
This individual will keep the Administrator and Program Director informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do light physical work.
In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
The employee is required to drive.
Must be able to occasionally lift and move up to 50lbs.
The work environment for this position is a residential environment with a low to high noise level.
Non Exempt / Part-Time Saturday and Sunday 3pm-11pm.
