The Kroc Community Center is currently recruiting Lifeguards.  We need flexible, reliable candidates who can work a varied schedule, 15 to 19 hours per week.  Our facility is open 7 days a week:  Monday through Thursday 5am to 9pm; Friday 5am to 8pm, Saturday 6am to 6pm; and Sunday 1pm to 6pm.



The Omaha Kroc Center redefines what a community center is all about.  This unprecedented place of gathering houses an array of education, sports, faith, arts and supportive programs never before assembled in the Omaha metro. The programs, as well as the building itself, have been designed to stimulate the mind, body and spirit, to provide hope, and to transform the life of each and every member of the community.


SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE:  Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of the members when they are in or around the pools and to respond to emergency situations.



  1. Recognize and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.
  2. Prevent emergency situations.
  3. Eliminate hazardous situations or behaviors.
  4. Enforce the facility policies, rules and regulations.
  5. Complete chemical records, accident and incident reports.
  6. Inform the Manager of situations that need attention (emergencies, closings, accidents, behavioral situations requiring notification of law enforcement personnel and property issues).
  7. Exercise regularly to maintain current certifications.
  8. Attend mandatory meetings and in-service training.
  9. Always wear a clean uniform while on duty. (This includes a whistle)
  10. Never leave the pool unattended.
  11. Notify supervisor and find a replacement of an assigned duty in advance of leave.
  12. Clean the pools and deck area.
  13. Oversee/clean the Aquatic locker-rooms.
  14. Check chemicals and equipment.
  15. Foster a positive working relationship with all departments, and outside agencies and vendors.
  16. Consistently provide accurate updates and feedback to direct manager
  17. Primary work schedule is Monday through Sunday varied hours; mornings, afternoons or evenings.
  18. All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  This position will not have any direct oversight of any staff.


QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Less than high school diploma or equivalent (GED).  No prior experience; will train on the job.  Personal working knowledge of general guidelines for safe and effective cardiovascular and strength training exercises preferred.

COMPUTER/PROGRAM SKILLS: Basic computer knowledge needed to access time clock and personal information via a web based system.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:  Must pass all applicable background checks.

This position will be working in a well-lighted indoor pool year round.  The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high depending on the number of members using the facility.
