Overview

OBJECTIVE Provide direction for the program activities of Echo Grove meeting the needs of all campers.

Responsibilities

Provide direct supervision of existing and/or new program activity areas; – pool, waterfront, ropes course, climbing tower and wall, shooting range, Outdoor Learning Center, hayride, campfire program, teepee village, gym and ball field games, group games, etc. • Be the Echo Grove liaison to the The Salvation Army Outdoors (TSAO), which involves representing camp and supporting Divisional and Territorial TSAO events, as needed. • Provide direct supervision of group setup needs, including, but not limited to indoor and/or outdoor meeting spaces (i.e. tables, chairs, risers, etc.). • Assist Program Director with supervision of all Interns and seasonal/temporary personnel – recruit, train, mentor and manage. • Participate in meetings for camps and/or guest groups. Also assist in group hosting as needed. • Develop relationships with Corps and EMI Division for recruitment of interns and SMT's. • Assist Site & Facility Department as needed (including winter maintenance responsibilities) – requires TSA Driver approval and Chauffers’ License. • Participate when necessary in operation of Food Service. • Due to the nature of the position, and the potential need for availability on a 24-hour basis, The Salvation Army requires the holder of this position to reside on the Echo Grove Camp Property in provided, designated housing. • Any additional duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

3 years of experience working in a camp community. • Knowledge of appropriate operating regulations, licenses and codes. • Supervisory experience required. • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. • Effective written correspondence and oral communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. • Ability to promote and comply with the Mission Statement and Core Values of Echo Grove and The Salvation Army. • Experience in mentoring, training, disciplining, coaching, and counseling staff. • Self-starter and organizer with good character, integrity, adaptability and a positive attitude. • ARC Certified Lifeguard • CPO Certified Pool Operator • LGI Lifeguard Instructor • RSO Range Safety Officer • Ropes Course Facilitator • Given the year-round programming, must live at camp. Housing provided.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION Must be able to observe camper/staff behavior and assess its appropriateness; traverse around 198 acres of hilly outdoor camp terrain; communicate clearly; have physical strength (to lift, dig, load, unload, mop, repair, etc.).
