This is a part-time position to cover vacant shifts.  Shifts include evenings, weekends, and holidays.  Many shifts are 12 hours shifts and may be overnight.


Under the direct supervision of the Regional Social Services Director, this position is expected to   comply with and meet The Salvation Army, Federal, State and Local policies and standards. Maintain shelter security.  Perform related duties to maintains control and assist homeless clients in the shelter.  Each monitor is responsible for their shift to include cooking appropriate meals for clients, cleaning duties, maintain records, and case management duties as assigned by Regional Social Services Director. 


  1. Monitor clients to maintain control and assure safety of clients in building and on grounds.
  2. Enforce resident policies and procedures.
  3. Accomplish intake interviews on all clients including police clearance and explain thorough explanation of policies and procedures.
  4. Case management as assigned.
  5. Assign beds for lodging, and give out bed linens as needed.
  6. Make shelter journal log entries of incidents during the shift, and read the previous entries at the beginning of the shift.
  7. Record statistics of attendance at house meetings and maintain client roster list.
  8. Make resident bed checks every hour during the night.


Education & Certifications:   High school or equivalent diploma.


Experience:   One year of experience working in social service agency or three (3) years work experience without a diploma.  Higher education in psychology, social work, criminal justice or other related field is a plus.  Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision. Basic computer skills are required.  Good communication skills required.
