Overview

This is a regular part-time position with a work schedule of 1p to 6p Monday thru Friday.  

 

Under the direct supervision of the Food Donation and Distribution Coordinator, this position is expected to perform all functions of a cook.  This includes but is not limited to: ensuring efficient operation of the kitchen and dining area; preparation and serving of meals; and clean-up of kitchen and dining area. Position is expected to comply with and meet The Salvation Army, Federal, State and Local policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and serve meals to residents and the public as necessary.
  2. Coordinate meal planning, shopping and preparation with monitors.
  3. Comply with all safety and health regulations/codes regarding food preparation and service including maintenance of proper sanitation by wearing plastic gloves, hair nets, and aprons.
  4. Sanitize all cooking utensils.
  5. Ensure dining room tables and floors are sanitized before and after meals.
  6. Keep kitchen refrigerators, walk-in refrigerator, freezer, and all drawers and cabinets clean and organized at all times.
  7. Keep all foods in the refrigerators labeled with date and contents.
  8. Keep and maintain a daily temperature log of food being served, as well as all refrigerators and freezers.
  9. Lift and carry cooking materials and supplies.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications: High school degree or equivalent. Must have or obtain within the orientation period a valid food handling certificate. 

 

Experience: A minimum of one year cooking experience.   Able to comply with recipes, safety handling instructions and job description.  Medically qualified to work in food service area.  Able to prepare meals in large quantities.
