Join us to help make a difference in people's lives by "Doing the Most Good."  The Salvation Army Walnut Thrift Store located in Columbia, Missouri, is looking for a part-time, 24 hours per week, DOT eligible, Truck Helper/Driver Alternate.  The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, but an occasional Saturday may be necessary.  This position comes with benefits such as 11 paid holidays a year, vacation time, sick time, personal time, and is eligible for participation in the company funded pension plan after one year of service.  Minimum starting pay is $10.00.

Responsibilities

Make a positive impact on people and the company’s bottom line by providing friendly competent Truck and warehouse labor to create a pleasant donating and shopping experience for customers and donors. Function as the Truck Driver when assigned. generate and share your own bright ideas with the team to encourage Donor and customer retention, growth of Donor and customer base, and growth in daily sales. Enhance relationships by demonstrating effective problem resolution skills.  Utilize a computer for clocking in and out and requesting paid leave.

Qualifications

Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision.  High school/equivalent diploma and one year related work experience or two years’ work experience without diploma.  Position requires basic communications with customers and other employees. Ability to comprehend written job description, city map, cleaning instructions and material safety data sheet.  Previous store worker experience is desired.  Must have MO Class E driver’s license at hiring, pass TSA MVR check and have or obtain DOT certification before driving the truck and within two weeks of hire.  Fork lift operator certification must be presented/obtained before operating the forklift.  Must be capable of performing the essential duties.  Must be physically able to regularly perform the frequent lifting, bending and twisting necessary for daily movement of bulk clothing and furniture merchandise found in the thrift store environment.  Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:  Frequently lifts 70 pounds, and occasionally lifts more than 100 pounds.  Frequently lifts or moves 100 pounds or more with assistance of another person/forklift/floor jack/dolly/cart or truck.  Majority of lifting is from floor to waist high.  Some lifting required above waist and shoulder high.  This position will be expected to bend, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, carry and push/pull items.  Most of this work will be outside.  It will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
