Overview

This position is a temporary, summer position and is an excellent opportunity for students.  Must be over the age of 18.  

 

Under the supervision of the Day Camp Coordinator and the Youth Development and Outreach Specialist, the Day Camp Counselor is responsible for providing a day camp program consistent with the needs and interests of the community. Counselors work with youth of various ages and must have the ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers, and peers. Counselors supervise and lead activities for all day camp events. Counselors ensure camper safety and well being of campers while they are in our care.  

 

Responsibilities

 

  1. Provide building blocks of healthy development for youth through the infusing of Search Institute’s 40 Developmental assets into programming and daily interaction. 
  2. Lead all day camp and other recreation activities with enthusiasm according to training protocol and written lesson plans.
  3. Adhere to and implement discipline procedures created for campers.
  4. Communicate any camper or parent issues with Day Camp Coordinator immediately. Follow up with appropriate documentation as directed.
  5. Keep camper issues confidential. Do not share issues with other campers, parents or patrons, news organizations, or staff who are not involved.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

Education & Certifications:  High School graduate. 

 

Experience:  Experience in a gymnasium, camp, teaching, leadership, or athletic setting is helpful.
