    The Salvation Army Mission Statement

    Objective:        Provide leadership and scheduling to the program ministries and staff of Echo Grove in meeting the needs of all staff, guests and campers


    1. Provide direct supervision of all seasonal/temporary personnel including the Interns in the Journey program and the Summer Ministries Team SMT.
    2. Primary responsibility is to hire, manage, mentor, train, disciple, coach, support, schedule and counsel Interns.
    3. Responsible to assist the DYS with hiring, oversight and management of Summer Ministries Team SMT.
    4. Assist in providing direct supervision of program activity areas, i.e. pool, waterfront, challenge course, shooting range, outdoor learning center, hayride, campfire, gym, ball field, sports fields, group (teambuilding) games and Froggies.
    5. Liaise with DHQ staff for programming all summer camps, year-round retreats and events.
    6. Assist Guest Relations with programming, hosting, or facilitating hosting of guest groups while on camp.
    7. Provide programming when required.
    8. Responsible for periodic TSA Safe from Harm training and implementation for all staff.
    9. Assist with Day Camp programs, as needed.
    10. Participate when necessary in areas of Food Service, Site and Facilities (housekeeping) and Program.
    11. These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.


    • At least 21 years old with 2-3 years of experience working in a camp community.
    • Knowledge of appropriate operating regulations, licenses and codes.
    • Supervisory experience required.
    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
    • Valid Michigan Chauffer’s Driver’s License
    • Effective written and oral communication and excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to promote and comply with the Mission Statement and Core Values of Echo Grove and The Salvation Army
    • Experience in mentoring, training, disciplining, coaching, scheduling and counseling staff.
    • Self-starter and organizer with good character, integrity, adaptability and a positive attitude
    • LGI Lifeguard Instructor and/or Lifeguard and/or Ropes Course Facilitator
    • Desire and ability to work and live in a fast paced camp community
    • Given the year-round programming, must be willing to live at camp. Housing provided.

    Essential Functions

    Must be readily available and able to train and schedule staff; observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, and traverse around 198 acres of hilly outdoor camp terrain; communicate clearly; enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques; identify and respond to hazards; work with different age and skill levels; plan and conduct activities; physical ability to assist campers and staff in emergency (fire, severe weather, evacuation, illness, or injury); and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision.
