The Driver will drive the designated pickup and drop-off routes for the Caring Partners Adult Day Program in a safe and appropriate manner assisting participants as needed in an out of the vehicle and in and out of the building or home. When not driving they will assist with other activities and duties in the day program as directed. This is a part-time regular position.
Review daily route sheets before leaving building to assure accuracy and check for cancellations
Pick up cell phone and make sure that it is working properly – carry with on route
Review daily safety check list for bus – assure that all lights and safety equipment is working properly – report any problems to the program director.
Start bus in advance to assure that the interior air temperature is at a safe level prior to loading participants
Drive route as directed – pick up participants from their homes, assisting from home onto bus as needed. Assure that participant is properly seat-belted or wheelchair is properly secured.
Contact CPADP when at last stop before returning to center.
Assist participants into building as needed
Assure that the bus is secure, windows closed and doors locked
Return cell phone to CPADP office
Review route sheet for changes and accuracy
Pickup cell phone and assure it is working properly
Start bus in advance to assure a safe interior temperature prior to loading participants
Assist participants into bus as needed – assure they are properly seat-belted or wheelchair is properly secured
Drive route as directed assisting participates into their home as needed
Park bus in designated spot when route completed. Remove any trash and other objects left in the bus and throw away or give to CPADP staff as appropriate
Secure bus – assuring that all windows are closed, lights off, and doors locked.
Return cell phone to office
Report maintenance issues to CPADP director as needed
Fill bus with fuel and check fluids as needed/directed
Take bus to be repaired or maintained as directed
Drive for field trips – assisting other staff as needed to assure a safe outing as directed
• Assist other program staff with activities and programs as directed
• Assist participants with rest-room and other personal needs as needed
• Help with cleaning and minor maintenance of center as directed
• Other duties as assigned
This position requires a current Minnesota Driver’s License and Medical Card from the State of Minnesota authorizing them to drive a commercial vehicle. They must be cleared by the State of Minnesota Back Ground Check to work with vulnerable adults. They must also pass The Salvation Army Driver Qualification and back ground check. They must have experience or training in working with and transporting elderly and adults with disabilities. Must be physically able to assist adults in transportation needs, including pushing wheelchairs, and assisting them up and down steps. Must be certified in CPR and basic first-aid. Must be willing to support the mission of The Salvation Army. It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first ninety (90) days of employment.
