  • Overview

    Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Building Services Worker cleans the Emergency Lodge building, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

    • Cleans the Emergency Lodge officers, client rooms, meeting rooms, hallways, restrooms, common areas, and Children's Center on a daily basis according to established procedures. This includes sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, cleaning toilets, keeping restrooms supplied with essential toiletries; removing trash and garbage; cleaning windows and glass doors; dusting furniture, etc. 
    • Keeps grounds and parking lot clean from broken glass, trash, etc. Removes trash from outdoor garbage containers. 
    • Monitors cleaning supplies, notifying supervisor of low inventories. 
    • Identifies and reports to supervisor any maintenance needs of the facility, such as replacement of fluorescent lights, ballasts, light bulbs, repairs, leaks, etc.
    • Bags resident belongings for departing clients and brings the items to the appropriate social workers office. Wipes down bed and dresser, and cleans the walls and floors of the outgoing residents' rooms. 
    • Cleans in-house laundry, to include linens, blankets, pillows, towels, etc. Cleans laundry room. 
    • Supervises client use of laundry room on a rotating basis with other maintenance department staff and assigned workers. 
    • Paints walls and stairwells as directed. 
    • Assists with maintaining the grounds, performing snow removal and yard work as assigned. 
    • Follows and complies with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintains departmental housekeeping standards. 
    • Strips , waxes, and buffs tile floors as directed; spot cleans and shampoos carpets as needed/ 
    • Assists in unloading/loading deliveries to/from the Emergency Lodge. 

    Other Responsibilities: 

    • Assists with special projects and programs as assigned. 
    • Picks up supplies and makes deliveries as directed by the supervisor. 
    • Any other duties as assigned and appropriate to the custodian position. 

    Materials and Equipment: 

    Uses a variety of cleaning chemicals, and tools and equipment such as mops, brooms, vacuums, buffers, shampooers, etc. May operate motor vehicles. Uses shovels, snow blowers, lawn mowers, and other equipment for grounds maintenance. May be required to operate clothes washers and dryers. 




    Six to twelve months of related work experience. 


    Licenses and Certifications: 

    Valid Wisconsin Driver's license preferred, with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army's insurance carrier.

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
    • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization. 
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
    • Ability to work independently 
    • Ability to use power equipment such as buffers, shampooers, vacuums, snow blowers, mowers, etc.
