    The Summer Day Camp Senior Counselor will assist the camp director by enforcing camp rules, monitoring campers for safety, and participating in all daily activities ensuring a successful camp experience.


    1. 1. Supervise day campers.
    1. Participate in all day camper daily activities such as recreation, arts and crafts, field trips, character education, Bible activities, and games.
    2. Work to develop respect and cooperation in small group settings by ensuring individuals are following day camp rules for safety
    3. Remain with assigned campers throughout the day
    4. Guide campers in their participation in day camp programs, special events, and activities.
    1. Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers including those in the individual assigned small group, by following closely the Safe from Harm guidelines.
    2. Maintain positive relationships with campers by showing sensitivity to campers’ emotional needs & problem solving any camper issues effectively.
    3. Prepare activities (recreation, arts & crafts, science, etc) for daily afternoon group time with assigned small group.
    4. Teach arts & crafts, gym games, singing, and/or Christian education lessons as assigned.
    5. Supervise arrival and departure of campers as assigned by Day Camp Director.
    6. Clean up duties as assigned by Day Camp Director, including but not limited to: wiping down tables, vacuuming, kitchen clean up and trash removal.
    7. Attend all staff meetings, field trips, and end of summer program as designated by Day Camp Director.
    8. Act as a leader to all CIT’s, by providing them with instructions for daily activities. Set a positive example for CIT’s and direct them in how to assist with activities.
    9. Counselors may work alternate work schedules weekly to accommodate pre-care and after-care families as assigned by the Day Camp Director. This is in addition to supervision of campers during day camp hours of 10:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m.
    10. 9. Be available to open the building at 8:00 am or close the building by 5:30 pm, when assigned by Day Camp Director.
    11. 10. Collect day camp payments in the absence of the Day Camp Director.
    12. 11. Supervise during field trips as assigned by Day Camp Director, including providing leadership during bus transportation.


    • Must be at least 18 years old.
    • Desire and ability to work with children.
    • Ability to relate positively to one's peer group.
    • Ability to accept and follow the guidance and direction of supervisors.
    • Ability to direct arts and crafts instruction.
    • Ability to participate in recreational games in gymnasium and outdoors.
    • Must be in generally good physical condition.
    • Must be self-motivated and able to work with little or no direct supervision.
    • Must have the ability to work with children and adults from varying social and economic segments of the community.
    • Must demonstrate sound leadership qualities and exemplify good character and integrity.  
    • Must pass The Salvation Army criminal background checks.
    • Must have a Chauffer license and pass The Salvation Army driving record check.
    • Must complete Safe From Harm Training (level 2).



    This position is ideal for college students or older adults who have had some experience working with children, or have a strong desire to work with children. Prefer to have previous summer day camp experience.


    • The counselor must be able to give direction and guidance to children clearly and in a respectful tone.
    • Must be able to receive verbal and/or written instructions from supervisors.
    • The counselor must be able to complete basic attendance reports and camper records as needed.


    The Day Camp Senior Counselor must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.

    The Day Camp Senior Counselor is required to participate in all physical activities including, but not limited to, outdoor recreation, walking long distances, outdoor games, and indoor group gamesThe employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and armsThe employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision.
